Dw did it for me. Once you moved in to higher tension....seemed to have the best sensitivity. Pearl was a close second

I was SURE it was going to the Yamaha for me, but at lower tuning the Ludwig was the winner, probably due to the diecast hoops dampening some of the wonky overtones. The Tama was a respectable second.

People need to stop sleeping on Mapex.

This is a really tough one. I feel like I could give it to any of them but I'm gonna give it to Ludwigs Classic Oak

1. DW 2. Mapex 3. Ludwig 4. Pearl

Great snare drums, but I'm liking the DW, then Ludwig, Yamaha, and Tama.

I had to listen twice to make sure because the jam vs head to head had me questioning. Head to head the Mapex did sound a little cleaner while the others a little muddy. But the jam section the Ludwig was popping. Second time around sealed it. Ludwig, Pearl, Mapex, DW

I liked the DW!

Really tough, close call. I don't usually like DW snares, but the Custom Profile at the low tuning really surprised me with its smack! Slight edge over the Mapex. At the higher tuning it's a toss-up, maybe the Mapex by a photo finish. I know I'm in the minority here, but the win goes to the DW Custom Profile.

I think I'd go for the Classic Oak. The Pearl Stavecraft Thai Oak is pretty amazing as well.

First off, thank you for not putting "low tuning" in the basement like a dead mess! Great tunings all around. Mapex for me on this one.

I love the Saturn but the CEO owner broad doesn't understand how to provide products for ALL customers. She must be really stupid so I moved to TAMA who understands their customers. What am I talking about? Well, it's this simple, dufus CEO decided she will only make products for the people who love to carry around heavy stands to mount toms on. She would rather not make products that support people who want the toms on the bass drum. Thank you, TAMA, for giving us a choice to pick toms on the bass drum OR toms on stands when purchasing a new kit. Up yours Mapex. I'll spend my money with other companies. Kiss it.

so, the actual material tama bell brass is made of is bronze...but then why gretsch posph bro, with its 5 mm shell, sounds not that close to it, as you may expect? i would say, even gretsch bell brass has more similarities to the vintage tama's sound.

Not much of a fan of Mapex usually but have to vote the Mapex BP Shadow. There was a warmth to the tone that I really liked!
